The Punk Bernie is Georgian silver plated Argyle also known as an Argyll
This was used to keep gravy warm. The lower compartment is filled with hot water through the hinged spout, to keep the gravy warm.
His curved spout is used for pouring from the bottom, which allowed the gravy to be drawn off from underneath the layer of fat that settled on the top.
His wicker handle that is in tact.
He ha a repair at the base of the spout.
Curved, elegant design with a gadroon border on both the top rim.
Has some minimal wear to his silver plating surface, with signs of wear with copper showing through.
Inside is of good usable condition with minimal wear and scratches.
Rare and fine piece of unusual antique dining wear
John Campbell (1723-1806), the fifth Duke of Argyll, who commissioned the first piece to maintain the warmth of the gravy in its vessel.
Argyles were produced up until the Edwardian period, but since many of the early examples were converted into coffee or teapots, they have become quite rare.
