The Mixologist Ida is a very pretty handmade Japanese paper mache lacquer jewellery box.
She is a large sarcophagus form box with hinged lid.
Ida is expertly hand crafted, decorated on all sides in gilt with finely detailed flowers and wildlife of birds and moths.
Her inside is also finished in the traditional black lacquer, which is well preserved. Paw feet on her base have randomly been removed, so this box sit flat.
Brass lock and inlayed escutcheon, no original key.
Ida has some general wear to her surface, with her original finish very well worn, there are warps and shrinkage separations from age use and natural light.
This is a highly collectable, authentic and striking item perfect to complement any Chinoiserie deco fan
Dates late 1800's
