The Headhunter Harvey is a wonderful kitchen utensil
He is a primitive adjustable can opener
He has a wooden handle with adjusting metal blade, these were used by punching the top of the can with the point, then turning it down with the point in the hole gripping the utensil down so the cutter would pierce the edge and manually rotate around to cut. (I think!)
The original can opener of this style was invented by William Lyman and used a cutting wheel to cut the top of the can. His patent is dated July 1870. Instead of a cutting wheel, Harvey has a sharp, pointed blade.
Harvey is in good and used condition with aged patina throughout.
